This wins the award for the most unusual/creative/creepy/disturbing poster for New Years Eve in Rome. No surprise it is for a rave party. I found it the other night near Piazza Trilussa in Trastevere.
I like how it is called “phagodanno” instead of “capodanno” which means New Years. I found this flickr group about it that has a better picture of the poster. Looks like they are gathering in a warehouse for a night of craziness. I also looked up the website to see what this thing is all about. Here is what they say:
“Phag Off is a multilingusitic queer project; the dawn of a new era which produces lighting designs for a post-gay imaginary. Phag Off uses its irreverence to express what lies between new sexual identities and the radical critique to power relationships inside the g.l.b.t. community (as an historified form of expression fo the sexual differences) and the radical deconstruction of identity. Phag Off creates and ride the sexual new wave: cultural Frankenstein, freaks identities, morbid war machines.”
Cultural Frankenstein? I like their use of adjectives. Should be a interesting night. If anyone goes, let me know how it was.
Anyways…D and I are planning a low key NYE. We will probably just eat a ton of lentils and throw dishes out the windows while wearing our red underwear. What are your NYE plans/traditions?

that poster is definitely a head turner.
i’ve heard of eating black eye peas for New Years for goodluck….never lentils…..and red underwear? is that an Italian tradition?
have a good one!
Happy New Year!!!
Eating whatever my wife decides, watching the mess at Times Square and trying to stay awake for the ball to drop.
Happy New Year Newlyweds!!!
Eryn: I know huh!?! I stopped dead in my tracks, along with several other people in the vicinity-we were all trying to make sense of what we were looking at. HAHA. I guess it is doing the job! Yes all those things are Roman/Italian NY traditions. If you click on the sentence the link will take you to a good article explaining the origins of the traditions. Happy NY!
I miss watching the ball! Well I guess if I get up at 6am I can watch it on Fox. I doubt I will though, I can’t wake up early for anything. Happy New Years to you too!
Bluefish: Happy New Year to you too!
Gil: I hope your wife has good taste (hahaha)
Scary poster!
My New Year will be similar to yours I think. Lentils, red underwear, throw stuff off balcony.
My partner and I saw this poster in the Trastevere last week - we stopped to take a picture and thought that we would eventually research it to figure it out. Pretty cool!
