Today bloggers are United Together in Acts of Kindness. In a busy, fast paced world, it is necessary to slow down and try to act like a decent human being, not just because Christmas is coming, but because it is the right thing to do. I don’t generally like to broadcast my acts of charity or kindness, because my goal is not gain attention from doing them, but only to feel that deep thump in my chest and the boost of adrenaline that accompanies doing a nice thing for someone. So rather than spill about how great I am, I would rather talk about a guy who makes my day a bit better every time I see him.
I don’t know his name, but I recognize his Jamaican influenced singing voice as soon as I round the corner to take the Metro B in the Tiburtina train station. Every morning, he has his keyboard set up and his hat out for the occasional coin. He sings all kinds of songs, in English, and he has an amazing energy. He is not going to be the next big thing, but he can carry a tune. I don’t quite know what it is about him, but I look forward to walking past him and getting whatever he is signing stuck in my head as I race by and attempt to wedge myself into the overflowing train car. I try to fling change into his hat when there is a gap in the herd of people pushing their way towards the train. If I could, I would love to spend an hour listening to his soothing voice and maybe soak up some of his positive vibes.
It has been pretty cold in Rome the last week, and I have been on break from school. I have no doubt that he is there, playing a song just like any other day. Next time I pass by him I will be sure to throw this note in his hat (along with a Euro or two):
Mystery reggae man! You make my boring commute much more pleasant! Thank You!

Stop sometime and talk with him. Ask him questions and tell him how much he means to your daily routine.
Blessings.
Sweet! It never ceases to amaze me how just a few pieces of a tune can carry a day into an upwards spiral.
